| Every year the Buckingham Township Civic Association holds its Annual Dinner on the evening of the second Tuesday in April. After a social hour where we get to meet other BTCA members, we settle down to the wonderful task of eating the amazing spread put on every year by the Cock 'N Bull. After dinner and a short talk by the BTCA president, we usually bring in a speaker to entertain and inform us on a topic pertinent and interesting to our members. Several years ago we heard from Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve on creating beauty in your yard using native plants, but another year saw a comic, and for our 50th year Celebration, the tables in the dining room competed against each other in a quiz game to see who knew the most about Buckingham! In 2000, The Living Green Children's Chorus presented an original musical production on land preservation written by Cathy Block, a Buckingham resident. Board member Lori Rosolowsky played the piano and helped with the production.
In 2004, Terry McNealy of the Bucks County Historical Society amazed us with his recall of facts and figures concerning the activity of the Underground Railroad in Bucks County and in particular Buckingham Township. In addition, Henry Rowan presented a slide show showing the alternatives to the proposed 202 bypass.
Beth Lander, Director of the Bucks County Historical Society
Speaker's Bureau, captivated us with tales of "Bucks County Ghosts". In
addition we were pleased to have Mira Nakashima (daughter of the creative
woodworker, George Nakashima) explain the history of the Nakashima studio,
the unique design of its products and her love of the land. At this
past
year's annual dinner on April 11th, the featured speakers were Bridget
and Joe Wingert, the owners and publishers of the Bucks County Herald,
who talked about the trails, tribulations and
rewards of running a successful weekly newspaper. It was an
informative and entertaining talk. In addition Al Pincus added to the
evening by reviewing the results of the 2005 Buckingham Antique Auto Show
and Kimberly Kaufmann explained the "slow food" program. That and the
delicious buffet made for a perfect evening.
We look forward to seeing you there this year on
April 8th! |
